Dr Adam Moolna

Aride Island Nature Reserve

The Island Conservation Society (ICS; founded 2001) owns and manages Aride Island Nature Reserve, probably the most important seabird island in the Indian Ocean. Since 2007 ICS has also been acting as an environmental advisor to the Seychelles Government's Islands Development Company (IDC) - through which ICS manages conservation centres on Alphonse (since 2007), Desroches (since 2009), Silhouette (since 2011), and Farquhar (since 2013) with the support of world-class hotel partners.

As a consultant for 2012-13 with the Island Conservation Society, Adam Moolna explored ways forward to resolve obstacles and best deliver conservation results for ICS, IDC and hotel partners. Adam also took the position of Chief Executive Officer at ICS for 9 months from February 2012, in which role he worked extensively on all aspects of business administration.

Adam managed 25 staff and volunteers, a head office with conservation centres on 4 islands and £270k core annual income, as well as securing funding from the British and Australian governments, the UNDP Small Grants Programme, and Sharp Electronics for cutting-edge remote island solar electric projects. Business administration and project management experience was complemented by environmental policy expertise as a technical working group member for Seychelles' Protected Areas Act. Adam also arranged and supervised two Manchester University undergraduate student placements.
